Midnight bike ride returns on Sept. 13, register to ride
Thursday September 12, 2024Have you ever wanted to bike the streets of Detroit after dark?
for the annual on Friday, Sept. 13. On-site registration begins at 7 p.m. in the Student Union, and the ride begins promptly at 8 p.m. from the McNichols Campus. Be a part of this University tradition.
The bike tour includes rest stops to point out places of interest and a hot dog break at Detroit’s famous Lafayette Coney Island. Participants may purchase items at the stop at their own expense. After the 20-mile trip, the cyclists should return to campus around 12 a.m. on Saturday.
Here鈥檚 the breakdown:
- Students 鈥� If you have your own bike, the ride is free! (T-shirts are $5)
- Bike rental for students 鈥� $5 (limited availability)
- Faculty, staff, and members of the community are welcome to join the tour听 鈥� $25 (includes a T-shirt)

Constitution Day conversation, Sept. 17, on 鈥淔reedom of Speech and the Constitution鈥�
Thursday September 12, 2024The Black Abolitionist Archive, along with the Departments of History and Political Science and the McNichols Campus Library, invite Detroit Mercy students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to join us for our annual Constitution Day event on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at noon.
The event will be held in the Bargman Room, located on the second floor of the McNichols Campus Library. A limited number of light lunches will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and all are welcome.
This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淔reedom of Speech and the Constitution鈥� and features a presentation and conversation with Professor of History Roy Finkenbine and Assistant Professor of Political Science Lee Dionne.
September 17 is officially Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, so designated by a joint resolution of the United States Congress to commemorate the 1787 signing of the United States Constitution on that date. Each educational institution that receives federal funds for a fiscal year is required to hold an educational program on Constitution Day about the United States Constitution for its students.
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects, among other freedoms, the freedom of speech and states that Congress cannot make laws that limit freedom of speech. This means that the government generally cannot punish people or organizations for what they say or write, unless in exceptional circumstances, and Constitution Day is a day to celebrate the document that protects these rights.

First Six Mile Meetup set for Sept. 17 at Whatcha Wanna Eat
Thursday September 12, 2024The ‘s first Six Mile Meetup of the 2024-25 school year is set for Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 12:45-2 p.m. at , located west of the McNichols Campus at 10635 W. McNichols Road. All are welcome!

Bioneers conference, Oct. 17-18, is free to students, staff and faculty
Wednesday September 11, 2024Detroit Mercy will host the 19th annual Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit Conference 辞苍听Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17-18听on the McNichols Campus. This year, students, staff, administrators and faculty are invited to attend the environment-centered event for听free.
This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淩evolution from the Heart of Nature: Celebrating Our Interdependence鈥� and it will be, as always, a platform for community members to network and highlight innovative approaches to environmental and social challenges.
This year鈥檚 highlights include tours to environment-related destinations within Detroit along with many 鈥渓earnshops,鈥� which offer hands-on activities and panels with special guest speakers.
Registration includes bus transportation and lunch for Detroit Mercy students and employees, but is limited due to the size of the venue, so register early.
For others, registration is 鈥減ay as you are able,鈥� with a minimum of $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Adult programming is 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. The youth program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN)
TENN is a student-led and community-driven food justice program that delivers fresh produce to 60 families in New Martin Park Neighborhood and 80 seniors at Theresa Maxis Senior Apartments.
Center for Social Entrepreneurship
The Center provides business expertise and acumen as well as mentors to assist local entrepreneurs, beginning with the “Boost” workshop that aids entrepreneurs in developing business plans to achieve a greater social impact.
Counseling Clinic
The clinic provides no-cost counseling services to Detroit residents who otherwise may not have access to mental health services.
Dental Center
Detroit Mercy Dental offers dental services and education through two clinics, nine outreach clinics, a mobile dental clinic and a school-based dental sealant program.
Detroit Collaborative Design Center
The design center provides design services to non-profit community and civic organizations to engage communities and enhance neighborhoods.
Detroit Mercy Eye Institute
The Detroit Mercy Eye Institute includes the state-of-the-art equipment and technology needed to diagnose, monitor, and treat numerous eye conditions. The clinic will also provide affordable eyecare to the uninsured and vulnerable populations.
Law Clinics
Detroit Mercy Law provides legal assistance to Detroit area residents through six clinics: Immigration Law Clinic, SADO Criminal Appellate Clinic, Criminal Trial Clinic, Veterans Law Clinic, Juvenile Law Appellate Clinic and Intellectual Property Law Clinic.
Live6 Alliance

Reimagining the Civic Commons
